Reflection
Upon completing this assignment, I not only learned about the content I had to research, but also the different skills and abilities I had to use in order to finish this project to the best of my ability. However, in terms of geography and the study of different landforms, I understand much more about the classification of different landforms and how they compare of contrast. For example, I learned that although gorges and canyons are quite similar, their composition, characteristics, and surrounding environment determine which one they are. I also had no idea how to classify or group landforms. I realize now that it is virtually impossible to document all the landforms on earth simply because there are so many. Before starting this assignment, I had not even the slightest idea of what gorges were. It was through this experience that I was able to research and find information about this beautiful natural wonder.
In completing the research itself, I noticed that my research abilities and skills improved. Finding reliable information about this topic was difficult at times and finding credible sources was a hassle. However, this propelled me in taking more responsibility in looking for detailed research material and looking for the most reliable content. Since it was scarce to find information on gorges, I found myself looking at research content I would never have considered before. I started looking at tourism sites that gave details on the most famous gorges and from there, I was able to go that country's tourism website and look more in depth at the landform I was researching. Therefore, I am convinced that my research skills have improved significantly from completing this assignment.
One of the most important aspects of doing this assignment was taking advantage of it being a multiple intelligences assignment. I had to choose a format and method of completing this project that would suit me in doing it to my best. I had never considered using Weebly before nor had I ever hosted a website, but I do enjoy blogging. I love writing down my thoughts, feelings, and reflecting on knowledge; knowing that these are pastimes I thoroughly enjoy, I decided to try Weebly and learn to use this readily available technology. I am surprised to say that I really enjoyed formatting and creating my own website. I feel that this method of completing the assignment has not only beneficial to me, but it made the process work much more enjoyable, helping me strive to do better. In the same way, learning to use Google Earth to my advantage and creating a tour was a great learning experience in learning how to utilize the technology I have availiable. I truly believe that this assignment has not only broadened my knowledge on landform concept, but it has broadened my ability and skill in using different forms of creating the final product.
Finally, my critical thinking and application was also challenged as I researched the formation of gorges. It is not simple to imagine a process that occurs over geologic time and I had to take the research material I obtained and critically decide whether or not in it really made sense. As nobody has lived long enough to see the process of erosion create gorges, I had to make my own conclusions. Some websites gave information that did not match others and I had to choose the ones that made the most sense to me. It kept my mind at work in knowing I cannot blindly accept the information I was given.
